I’m a writer and director based in the UK. My work includes theatre and more than 750 hours of audio drama working regularly with some of the UK’s most popular actors including Nicola Walker, Jemma Redgrave, Paul McGann, Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Derek Jacobi. I’ve directed an original eight-part psychological thriller with Alex Kingston, a revival of Callan with Ben Miles, and an adaptation of The Invisible Man starring John Hurt. I’ve also directed Sam Mendes in a reading of The Signalman for Audible.
Ken is collaborative, supportive and kind. His integrity and willingness to debate and discuss to create the best possible production makes him a wonderful colleague to work with.

I’ve always been addicted to stories. Amongst my earliest and most formative memories are my dad reading the Alien novelisation to me at bedtime, and watching Son of Godzilla on TV and sobbing when scientists force him to hibernate at the end. That was the first time I experienced a visceral reaction to a piece of storytelling and the impact was profound. Stories can be smart and insightful, but what I love most is how they can trigger an emotional response and it’s become the bedrock of my work.
Ken is a brilliant creative force. As a writer, he leaves no stone unturned. His specificity, emotional literacy, firm grasp of plot and sheer honesty in the depiction of characters always leaves me full of admiration. A Ken Bentley script is fearless in its ambition and impact. As a director, he is a master of all the organisational requirements as well as casting beautifully and working delightfully well with actors, who find themselves happy and able to take risks in the relaxed atmosphere Ken generates. And his attention to detail with post-production is meticulous, yet he has a real ability to welcome the creative input of others.
